Sound Performance, Video Installation
ROSALUX
Wriezener Str. 12, 13359 Berlin - Wedding
At the ROSALUX event, artist Dovile Aleksaite addresses issues related to eco-anxiety, mental health, and personal connections to the natural environment. Aleksaite’s sound performance and installation, Weather Forecast, explores the relationship between emotions and weather. The original narration and soundscapes in the performance create a meditative journey that explores the ever-changing nature of our inner states. The installation accompanying the performance presents drawings and video work that reflect on weather measurement models and predictability.
One of the models explored is the visual and subjective Beaufort wind force scale, which marks one of the starting points of modern weather forecasting. Together with the emotions map of Dr. David Hawkins, this metaphorical weather forecast creates a new hybrid measurement system. In this fictional weather forecast, inner states intertwine with those from the outside world, so weather and emotions augment and become one another.
The word "emotion" comes from the Latin word "emovere," which means "to move, to agitate, to disturb." It is defined as "that which moves us" or affects us, much like the weather. Both weather and our emotions can be beautiful and powerful, yet also unpredictable and tumultuous. The performative event invites visitors to develop a deeper sense of self-awareness while also reflecting on their connections to the natural environment.
ROSALUX is a project space with a strong interdisciplinary and international orientation that has been firmly rooted in Berlin for more than 15 years. It is named after Rosa-Luxemburg-Platz, an interface between creative districts. Rosa Luxemburg's courage and commitment to a fairer society have been a growing inspiration.
ROSALUX is a polyphonic and inclusive space for work, exchange and presentation. A place for questioning, collective imagination and decentring. A place for art research, new methodologies and artistic languages. A space offering visibility to artistic practices off the beaten track.
ROSALUX believes in:
– the inter- and transdisciplinary dialogue
– the transformative potential of art and (post)humanism
– the artist-led approach to worldbuilding, planetary health and futurity
– the artist/curator as an inspiring emancipating force
– artistic diplomacy to promote inclusion, solidarity, cooperation and encounter.
ROSALUX is committed to the empowerment of the artistic base and promotes self-determined artistic ways of working and project ideas, networking and cooperation with other artistic initiatives and independent project spaces on a local and international level.
