Exhibition
Scheusal
Oldenburger Straße 31, 10551 Berlin - Moabit
As part of Project Space Festival, Scheusal presents a collaborative groupshow with the painter Inès di Folco, the poet MA.MOYU and the musician Marysia Osu. Di Folco, Osu and Zhawi have developed an exhibition based on the historical and mythological figure of the witch or wise woman, which deals with marginalized knowledge (often with female connotations) about nature, physicality and spirituality.
The persecution and suppression of certain traditional knowledge, for example about the use of perception-altering plants, continued, among other things, in today's drug policy, determines or still symbolizes the relationship of Western societies to nature and the environment as well as the roles of the (formerly?) knowledgeable.
Scheusal is an artist-run project space founded in 2021 by Rosa Joly and Sebastian Wiegand in Berlin- Moabit.
On display are primarily international, young positions of all media, occasionally also historical works, which are to be brought together and put in relation to each other primarily in group exhibitions.
The intention is to create a place where current art-making becomes visible as a collaborative, transmissive and associative event and in this sense exhibition-making could be seen as an extended artistic practice. Scheusal is dedicated to approaches that do not understand artistic work as the creation of an autonomous individual, but in which binaries such as self/other, dead/living, now/past etc. begin to dissolve.
