The solo exhibition 'Public Space For Sale' examines the increasing pressure on public space in an urban context. While Europe's largest cities continue to grow and densify, locals continue to look for solutions to create a livable public space. For this exhibition, the streets of Berlin form the battleground where different public interests compete against each other. A parking lot, public toilet, cemetery, market stall and picnic blanket are used as a backdrop for an absurdist exhibition narrative. These places illustrate a current story about privatization and commercialization of public space.

the Gimp

the Gimp was formed in 2020 out of a desire to run an off-space for presenting progressive art from outside Berlin. Pursuing this goal under low-cost production conditions is an honest reflection of making exhibitions as part of the Berlin project-space scene. Innovative exhibition concepts have been continually developed and presented in collaboration with artists who have been invited thus far. A recurring challenge is the dissolution or disruption of the White Cube: a sterile seminar room was set up for a performance; a darkened space was created for a sound installation; or viewers could access an installation on the rooftop for our last exhibition. The thirteen-square-meter space is located in a studio building on Südkreuz in Berlin-Schöneberg and is curated by artist Friedrich Herz and author Clemens Espenlaub.
